ABOUT MEAs a Reader, As a WriterMalloree started reading when she was young, she started reading kindergarten level books at the age of 4. When she was little her mother would always read to her before she went to bed. That was her favorite time of day. Her mother always new reading was very good for her and wanted what was best so her mother helped lead her into the world of fantasy stories and great images. Malloree loves to read because of all of the great images that she gets to see. Malloree loves to read books about water, because that is the one thing she absolutely adores, the water. That’s what pushed Malloree into really starting to like books. Reading isn’t always just for a school grade, it also has so many other meanings. For Malloree, she would read for a stress reliever, or for something fun to do while she was lying on a beach in the summer. To be a good reader, there has to be interest in the book. If one does not enjoy the book they’re reading, then it will make it hard for the reader to really concentrate on the text, plot and mental images. Reading is the easiest for Malloree when she really enjoys the book and the text is to the point. Reading is the hardest for Malloree when she doesn’t enjoy the book or the text drags on, her mind tends to wander away from the text. Malloree looks for mysteries or love stories when it comes to finding a book, she looks for the adventure in a mystery and the emotion through a love story to get her through a good book. At home Malloree doesn’t get the time to read, even though she still loves to read and is looking forward after she graduates to take time and start reading again.
Malloree’s writing techniques aren’t as strong as reading. Even though when she was little she loved to write just as much as reading. She would carry a notebook around with her everyday during the summer and wrote down her ideas, what she saw and things she did. Same as reading, writing isn’t always just for a letter grade. A writer wants to tell their story. When Malloree was in sixth grade she tried writing her own book, she only got a couple chapters into it before she moved onto something else. In order to be a good writer, the writer has to know the basics and have a simple plot line, the writer doesn’t want to get half way through their book or paper and realize they aren’t anywhere near where they wanted to be. Malloree likes writing the most when there is a prompt present. It is sometimes hard for her to pick out a simple idea and making a paper out of it. When there is a prompt present she can take the structure of the prompt and make a story. She still gets to write whatever she wants to but there is a little push to help get Malloree started. Malloree also likes when the reader of her paper gives her constructive criticism this will make her paper better than it was in the original, and she wants her paper to be the best it can be. Malloree doesn’t write at home anymore, when she does have any free time she likes to read. Malloree likes to write, but when it comes down to it reading is her strong suit. |
